Sustainability Policy

At Something Special Event Ltd, we are committed to creating beautiful events while minimising our impact on the environment. As a small, family-run business, we recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we are continuously looking for ways to reduce waste, energy consumption, and emissions.

Our Commitments

Eco-friendly materials & floristry

  • We use eco-friendly floral foam and continually develop techniques to provide non-floral foam alternatives.
  • Signage and décor are often handmade using reclaimed wood, reusable acrylic, and other environmentally-conscious materials.
  • Post-event flowers are returned to the guest or host, with any remaining arrangements donated to local charities to avoid waste.

Sustainable sourcing

  • We prioritise local suppliers and wholesalers and work primarily with floral suppliers within a 10-minute drive of our workshop to reduce transport emissions.
  • We seek out suppliers who are mindful of sustainability and use materials with minimal or recyclable packaging wherever possible.

Waste reduction, recycling & materials

  • We actively recycle cardboard, paper, glass, and plastic packaging.
  • We reuse props and décor across multiple events to reduce single-use items.
  • We always propose reusing and repurposing floral arrangements and larger decorative pieces throughout an event, instead of creating multiple arrangements or items that will only be used once.
  • For transporting décor and floristry pieces, we only use reusable cloths or other protective materials — no single-use plastic or bubble wrap.
  • All paints and finishes used on signage and décor are water-based and low-VOC. We prioritise upcycled or reclaimed materials, storing leftover paints safely for reuse.
  • Printed materials are only used when necessary. For marketing purposes, we prioritise QR codes, digital brochures, and digital proposals to minimise paper usage.

Energy & transport

  • Insulate workshop and office spaces to reduce heating energy needs.
  • Smaller event setups are carried out using electric vehicles, and larger setups require hired vehicles only when necessary.
  • We plan delivery and setup routes to minimise unnecessary journeys.
  • On-site, we use LED or low-energy lighting for décor and installations to reduce energy consumption during events.

Digital-first practices

  • We encourage digital solutions wherever possible, including wedding/event websites, QR code seating plans, digital proposals, and event documents.
  • This reduces paper use and ensures clients can access information conveniently and sustainably.

Client eco tips

  • We provide guidance to clients on prolonging the life of flowers post-event through a flower care guide.
  • Clients are encouraged to reuse or upcycle décor, and leftover flowers are donated to charities.

Education & continuous improvement

  • We are committed to ongoing learning in sustainability practices and plan to complete formal environmental sustainability training by the end of 2025.
  • We continuously review our operations and supply chain to identify further opportunities for sustainable improvement.
